Inventory

What is the inventory dashboard?

Store Inventory ranks your stock by what is about to run out, what is oversold, and what is tying up cash.

Store › Inventory is the screen that answers what to buy. It reads your live Shopify stock, compares it against how fast things actually sell, and ranks what needs attention.

The store dashboard tells you what sold. This tells you what happens next week if you do nothing.

What does it work out for you?

Four figures per product, and they are the reason this is not just a stock list.

  • Shippable available: what can actually ship right now, meaning what is on hand minus what is already committed to unfulfilled orders. This is the honest number, and it is usually lower than the one in Shopify.
  • Days of cover: roughly how many days the current shippable stock lasts at the recent sales rate.
  • Suggested reorder quantity: enough units to cover demand across the vendor's lead time plus a safety buffer, minus what is on hand and what is already on the way.
  • Fill cost: that suggested quantity multiplied by unit cost.

Each row also carries a status pill: Oversold, Critical, Low, Healthy or Not tracked.

Why not just look at stock levels in Shopify?

Because a stock level on its own does not tell you anything. Forty units is comfortable for one product and a fortnight from a stockout for another.

Fairgreen Golf Co. carries forty of a merino quarter-zip and forty of a logo cap. The quarter-zip has eleven days of cover and the cap has four months.

Only one of those is a problem, and a stock list sorted by quantity puts them side by side.

The other half is what is already coming. Incoming counts units on an open purchase order, so the suggested reorder does not tell you to buy something twice. That connection to What are suppliers and purchase orders? is what a spreadsheet cannot do.

What are the eight views?

One dropdown, three groups.

  • Alerts: Oversold.
  • Low stock: Top 100 by units, Top 100 by revenue, At risk now, Reorder now, Everything low.
  • Catalog: All stock, Dead stock.

Choosing between them is How to choose a stock view and ranking window, which also covers the ranking window that decides what "sells fast" means.

When would you use it?

What has to be true for it to work?

Store has to be switched on and Shopify connected, the same as the rest of What is the store dashboard?. Reading needs store view access; correcting stock and managing saved lists need write access.

Costs need to be recorded in Shopify for fill cost to be meaningful, and a vendor's lead time recorded on its supplier profile makes the reorder suggestion match reality rather than a default.
