How to control task, stock and order alerts

Three categories have a personal on/off switch. Here is what each one covers and what it does not.

Three alert categories have their own switch under What buzzes you on your account: Task reminders, Low-stock alerts and Notable order alerts. Each is a hard on or off for that category on your devices.

Task reminders

Buzzes you as one of your assigned tasks nears its due date, and keeps going while it is overdue.

The cadence escalates as the date approaches: occasional several days out, daily inside a few days, more often inside the last day, and while it is overdue.

Only tasks that are assigned to you, unfinished and have a due date produce reminders. A task you created and handed to somebody else reminds them, not you.

On an iPhone you can snooze a reminder or complete the task straight from the notification. Snooze defaults to an hour and can be set out to a day.

Turn this off if you work from lists rather than nudges. See How to see what needs you.

Low-stock alerts

Buzzes you when the low-stock watchdog finds products at or below the threshold.

Each product alerts once when it goes low and re-arms only after it recovers, so this is quieter than it sounds. Several products found in one run arrive as a single item rather than one each.

Turn it off on your phone if stock is somebody else's job and you only need it in your Inbox.

Notable order alerts

Buzzes you when an unusually large order arrives, over the figure set on the automation. One alert per order, naming the order, the amount and the customer.

This is the alert most worth keeping on a phone, because a large order occasionally needs a person to look before it ships.

What do these switches not do?

They silence pushes to your devices and nothing else.

The Inbox item still arrives, and any email the automation sends still sends. You have changed when you find out, not whether.

They also do not change anything for anybody else. To stop an alert for the whole workspace, or to change who receives it, that is the automation itself, per How to choose who gets an alert and how often.

Why do only three categories have a switch?

Because these three are the ones people reasonably want off while staying in the workspace.

Everything else, including chat, comments, approvals, workflow notifications and automation-failure alerts, is shaped by quiet hours and channel levels. See How to set quiet hours and your default chat level.

Why has one stopped arriving even though it is on?

Because something upstream stopped it, and there are three places to look.

The automation is switched off for the workspace, or the module it belongs to is off, in which case its alerts are dormant. See How to check whether an automation worked.

You are not on its recipient list, or you have lost the store access that makes you eligible. Losing access silently stops the alert even with your name still ticked.

Your quiet hours covered the moment it fired, and quiet hours drop rather than queue.

The Inbox settles which it is. An alert that is in your Inbox but never buzzed is a personal notification setting, and one that never reached your Inbox is upstream.
