# How to find your best sellers and where revenue comes from

The **Best sellers** table and the two revenue rings answer the two questions a trading
meeting always opens with: what is selling, and where is the money coming from. Both sit on
**Store › Analytics**, covered generally in <Ref to="store/read-your-dashboard" />.

## How do you rank best sellers? [#how-do-you-rank-best-sellers]

With the **Rank best sellers by** control, which switches the table between **revenue** and
**units**.

The two answer different questions and disagree more often than people expect. Ranking by
revenue tells you what pays for the business. Ranking by units tells you what your customers
actually reach for, which is what you plan stock around.

At Fairgreen, the merino quarter-zip tops the revenue table and the logo cap tops the units
table. Those imply different reorders.

## How do you narrow the table? [#how-do-you-narrow-the-table]

With the vendor and category filters above it. Filter to one vendor to see how a single
supplier's range is performing, or to one category to compare like with like.

Filtering to a vendor is the fastest preparation for a supplier conversation. Take the same
window you use for the rest of the dashboard, and you have their performance in one screen
before you write the order. See <Ref to="purchasing/add-a-supplier" />.

## What is the margin column telling you? [#what-is-the-margin-column-telling-you]

Gross margin as a percentage: revenue minus unit cost, per product, with an overall figure
for the table.

This is the column that changes minds. A product high on the revenue table with a thin margin
is doing less for you than its position suggests, and the two columns side by side is the
only place that shows up.

A blank margin means no cost was recorded in Shopify for that product. That is a gap to fill
in Shopify rather than a Tideswell fault, and it is why the overall figure can be lower than
you expect.

## Why do some products show no change against last period? [#why-do-some-products-show-no-change-against-last-period]

Because a comparison needs the product to have been in the previous period's top sellers too.
A product that has only now broken into the table has nothing to be compared against.

Absence of a change chip is therefore mildly interesting in itself: it usually means something
new is selling.

## What do the two rings tell you? [#what-do-the-two-rings-tell-you]

**Revenue by sales channel** splits by where the order came from, with an **Other** bucket for
anything outside the online store, point of sale and marketplaces. Every order sits in exactly
one channel, so the ring adds up to your revenue.

**Revenue by category** splits by Shopify's product type, showing the top eight and folding
the rest into **Other**.

Each segment carries an order count as well as a value. A channel with a large slice and few
orders is a wholesale-shaped pattern; many orders and a small slice is the opposite.

## How do you go from a best seller to a reorder? [#how-do-you-go-from-a-best-seller-to-a-reorder]

Move to **Store › Inventory**, which ranks by what is running out rather than what is selling,
and carries days of cover and a suggested reorder quantity.

Best sellers tells you what deserves stock. Inventory tells you what is about to run out of
it, and the two answers are frequently different products. See
<Ref to="inventory/find-what-to-reorder" />.

## Can I get this as an answer rather than a table? [#can-i-get-this-as-an-answer-rather-than-a-table]

Yes, and for this particular question it is usually faster. **Where are we weak** is one of
the built-in analyst buttons on the home page, and it breaks down the week's sales and ranks
what is underperforming by the size of the opportunity.

See <Ref to="analyst/digest-buttons" />.
