# What is the store dashboard?



**Store** is the part of Tideswell that reads your connected Shopify store: revenue, orders,
average order value, what is selling, where it is selling, and what is still waiting to ship.

It exists so that the numbers everyone argues about sit next to the work, the suppliers and
the conversation, rather than in a separate tab nobody has open.

## What is on it? [#what-is-on-it]

**Store** in the sidebar opens with a **Store pages** disclosure under it holding
**Analytics**, **Inventory**, **Purchase orders**, **Suppliers** and **Approvals**.

**Analytics** is the trading dashboard and the subject of this section. It carries revenue,
orders and average order value for whatever period you pick, a revenue trend, rings splitting
revenue by sales channel and by category, a best sellers table, and the recent orders card.

The other four have their own sections: <Ref to="inventory" /> for stock, and
<Ref to="purchasing" /> for suppliers, purchase orders and approvals.

## Why read it here rather than in Shopify? [#why-read-it-here-rather-than-in-shopify]

Because Shopify answers what happened and Tideswell answers what to do about it.

A revenue dip in Shopify is a chart. The same dip here is a chart next to the stock that ran
out, the purchase order that was late, the supplier it was ordered from, and the chat thread
where somebody flagged it three weeks ago.

The analyst reads all of that at once, which no store dashboard can do. See

## What does a workspace need for this to work? [#what-does-a-workspace-need-for-this-to-work]

A connected Shopify store. Until one is connected, the page shows a panel explaining that
rather than empty charts.

The wording of that panel changes depending on whether you are allowed to connect it
yourself. If you are not, it tells you to ask an admin, which is the honest answer.

One workspace connects one Shopify store. That is what makes every money figure on every
screen unambiguous: it is always in that store's currency.

## Two things worth understanding before you trust a number [#two-things-worth-understanding-before-you-trust-a-number]

**The page is fast because it is slightly stale.** Analytics and Inventory are served from a
snapshot rebuilt every few minutes, so the page opens instantly. The header carries an
"Updated N minutes ago" stamp and a **Refresh** button, which are your controls over that.

**A dash is not a zero.** When a figure cannot be read, Tideswell shows a dash or a named
error rather than a zero, because a zero is a claim about your business. If you see a blank
where you expected a number, that is Tideswell declining to guess.

The same honesty runs through a line you will meet on busy stores, telling you a card is
based on the most recent orders rather than all of history. Read it rather than assuming a
figure covers everything.
