# How to connect your Shopify store



Connecting Shopify is what turns most of Tideswell on. Sales, stock, products, orders and
customers all flow from it, and the store screens show a connect prompt rather than data until
it is done.

## Before you start [#before-you-start]

**Settings › Integrations** is admin-only, and connecting needs the manage-integrations
permission.

You also need to be able to approve the connection on Shopify's side, so do this from an
account with admin rights on the store.

## How do you connect? [#how-do-you-connect]

Open **Settings › Integrations**, click the Shopify row to expand it, type your shop domain,
and approve on Shopify's own screen.

There is nothing to copy or paste, and no keys to generate.

If you said you sell on Shopify during setup, you are brought here automatically at the end of
the wizard. That is the moment to do it.

## One store per workspace [#one-store-per-workspace]

**A workspace connects exactly one Shopify store**, which the screen states plainly: a second
store needs a second workspace.

That is a deliberate design rather than a limit to work around. It is what makes every money
figure in Tideswell unambiguous, because there is only one currency and one catalogue it could
be reading from.

## What does connecting switch on? [#what-does-connecting-switch-on]

More than people expect, which is why it is worth doing before anything else.

* **Store › Analytics**: revenue, orders, average order value, trends, best sellers and the
  channel split. See <Ref to="store" />.
* **Store › Inventory**: what is running out, days of cover, suggested reorder quantities and
  dead stock. See <Ref to="inventory" />.
* **Purchase orders**, which match their lines against your catalogue and count incoming stock.
* **The analyst**, which can answer questions about sales, stock and products rather than
  saying it has nothing connected. See <Ref to="analyst" />.
* **The stock and order watchdogs**, which cannot run without a store. See
  <Ref to="automations/stock-and-order-alerts" />.

## What is a "Reconnect" warning? [#what-is-a-reconnect-warning]

The one status that looks like it is working and is not.

**Reconnect** means the connection still reads fine but is missing a permission Tideswell now
needs, so certain things quietly fail. The commonest case names itself: a store connected
before stock-writing permission was required shows that receiving is failing.

Fix it by **re-authorizing the existing store** rather than disconnecting it, which picks up the
new permissions without losing anything.

## What if you have no Shopify store? [#what-if-you-have-no-shopify-store]

Everything that is not store data still works: chat, tasks, projects, documents, Objects,
decisions, suppliers and purchase orders.

The store screens simply show a connect panel. The wording of that panel changes depending on
whether you are allowed to connect it yourself, and tells you to ask an admin if you are not.
