# Getting started with Tideswell



Tideswell is one place for a brand's conversation, its work and its numbers: chat, tasks,
projects, your Shopify store, your suppliers and purchase orders, and an analyst you can ask
questions in plain English.

This section is the first hour.

## Getting access [#getting-access]

**Tideswell is currently invitation-only.** Creating a workspace needs a signup code, which we
hand out directly while the product is in private beta.

If you do not have one yet, get in touch and we will sort you out. If a colleague has already
set up your company's workspace, you do not need a code at all: you need an invitation from
them, covered in <Ref to="get-started/invite-your-team" />.

## Which are you? [#which-are-you]

Two quite different first hours, so start in the right place.

**You are setting up your company's workspace.** You will create it, answer four short setup
questions, and then invite everybody else. Start at
<Ref to="get-started/set-up-your-workspace" />.

**You are joining a workspace somebody else built.** Sign in with the exact email address you
were invited on, and you land straight in. Skip to
<Ref to="get-started/find-your-way-around" />.

## How do you sign in? [#how-do-you-sign-in]

With your work email. Tideswell sends a six-digit code and you type it in.

There are no passwords anywhere in Tideswell, so there is nothing to reset and nothing to
rotate. You can also sign in with Google, which is one button and no code.

**Sign in with the address you were invited on.** An invite is tied to one exact email, so
signing in with a personal address instead lands you in Tideswell with no workspace, and you
will be asked to create one rather than joining your team's.

If a code does not arrive, use **Use a different email or resend the code** on the sign-in
screen. For security, Tideswell never says whether an address is registered, so that message
looks the same either way.

## What is a workspace? [#what-is-a-workspace]

The private space for one company. Everything you see, chat, tasks, store data, suppliers,
belongs to exactly one workspace.

One workspace connects one Shopify store, which is what makes every money figure in the
product unambiguous.

## What should you do first? [#what-should-you-do-first]

In this order, and it takes under an hour.

1. **Set up the workspace** and answer the four setup questions, which decide what you start
   with. See <Ref to="get-started/set-up-your-workspace" />.
2. **Connect Shopify**, because most of the useful screens are empty without it. See
   <Ref to="get-started/connect-shopify" />.
3. **Set up your departments**, because nearly every permission in Tideswell is checked against
   a team rather than the whole workspace. See <Ref to="get-started/invite-your-team" />.
4. **Invite people** into those departments.
5. **Connect Klaviyo** when you are ready for customer data. See
   <Ref to="get-started/connect-klaviyo" />.

Then read <Ref to="get-started/find-your-way-around" />, which is the tour, and point everyone
you invite at it.

## Where to go after that [#where-to-go-after-that]
