# How to set your time zone

**Your time zone** is the first setting under **What buzzes you**, in **User menu › Account
settings**. The user menu opens from your avatar at the foot of the left menu. The rest of your
account settings are introduced in <Ref to="account" />.

## What does your time zone decide? [#what-does-your-time-zone-decide]

It decides what counts as today for you. That covers when a task is due and when it turns
overdue, when your quiet hours start and end, and when task reminders reach you.

It also sets when the daily brief email arrives: 8am in your time zone, if you receive the brief
by email. See <Ref to="analyst/daily-brief" />.

## Does it change the store's figures? [#does-it-change-the-stores-figures]

No. Sales and order figures on the **Selling** pages are counted on your shop's own day, from
the shop's midnight. That way everyone on the team sees the same figures for "today", wherever
they are.

How dates and figures are counted across Tideswell is covered in
<Ref to="concepts/numbers-and-dates" />.

## How does it follow your device? [#how-does-it-follow-your-device]

By default, the switch beside **Your time zone** is on and the hint reads **Following this
device.** The zone in use shows underneath, such as America/New York.

Each time you open Tideswell in a browser, it checks that device's time zone and switches to it if
it has changed. Nothing needs saving. If Priya Raman flies from Chicago to visit Portside Mills,
her due dates and quiet hours move to local time the first time she opens Tideswell there.

## How do you fix your time zone? [#how-do-you-fix-your-time-zone]

1. Open **User menu › Account settings**.
2. Under **What buzzes you**, turn off the switch beside **Your time zone**. The hint now reads
**Set by you, so it stays put when you travel.**
3. Pick your zone from the list that appears under it, such as Europe/London. It saves as you
 choose it.

Fix it when you want your day to stay on home time while you travel, or when a computer is set to
a different zone from where you work.

## What if your city is not in the list? [#what-if-your-city-is-not-in-the-list]

The list holds common zones, plus your current zone and the zone of the device you are using.

So to pick a zone that is not listed, open Tideswell on a device set to that zone and turn the
switch back on. Then turn it off again: your zone stays set, and is now first in the list.

## How do you go back to following your device? [#how-do-you-go-back-to-following-your-device]

Turn the switch beside **Your time zone** back on. Tideswell adopts the time zone of the device
you are using straight away, and follows your device from then on.

## Can you set it on the phone? [#can-you-set-it-on-the-phone]

Set it on the web. The Tideswell iPhone app uses the same time zone, and shows it under **Quiet
hours** on its **Notifications** screen.

Quiet hours and the alert switches beside your time zone are covered in
<Ref to="notifications/quiet-hours-and-levels" /> and
<Ref to="notifications/task-stock-and-order-alerts" />.
