# How to change your name, photo and sign-in email

Everything about how you appear to your colleagues is on your account page. Reach it from the
avatar at the foot of the sidebar, then **Account settings**.

## What is the difference between a display name and a handle? [#what-is-the-difference-between-a-display-name-and-a-handle]

Your **Display name** is what people read: on a task, in a comment, in the roster. It can run to
80 characters.

Your **Username** is the handle people type to mention you, in lowercase letters, numbers and
underscores.

Set both. A display name of "Priya Raman" and a handle of "priya" is the pairing that works: one
is readable and the other is guessable.

## How do you add a photo? [#how-do-you-add-a-photo]

**Change photo**, then pick an image. PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF, up to 2 MB.

This is worth doing even if it feels vain. Avatars are how a task list, a board and a chat
channel are scanned, and a workspace of blank initials is genuinely slower to read.

## How do you change the email you sign in with? [#how-do-you-change-the-email-you-sign-in-with]

Change it on the **Email address** field, which is labelled as the address you sign in with.

A confirmation link goes to the **new** address, and nothing changes until you click it. Check
your new inbox to confirm.

That order matters. Until you confirm, you keep signing in with your old address, so a typo
cannot lock you out.

Change it before you lose access to the old address rather than after, since the confirmation
goes to the new one but you still need to be signed in to start.

## Is there a password? [#is-there-a-password]

No. Tideswell has no passwords at all, so there is nothing to change, reset or rotate.

Your email is your sign-in.

## Where are the notification settings? [#where-are-the-notification-settings]

Further down the same page, in **Notifications** and **What buzzes you**.

Turning notifications on is **per device**, so do it on each browser and phone you use. Quiet
hours and the per-category switches are per person and follow you everywhere.

See <Ref to="notifications/turn-them-on" /> and
<Ref to="notifications/quiet-hours-and-levels" />.

## What if I am going away? [#what-if-i-am-going-away]

Set an out-of-office handover so somebody can cover for you, on the same page. See
<Ref to="account/delegation" />.

## Can you delete your account? [#can-you-delete-your-account]

Account deletion is in the iPhone app rather than on the web.

Note that this is your **account**. Removing somebody's access to a workspace is a different
thing, done by an admin from the member roster, per
<Ref to="workspace-admin/members-and-roles" />.
