# Tideswell documentation



Tideswell is one workspace holding the parts of a commerce brand that already affect one
another: the conversation, the work, the stock, the suppliers, the orders and the people.
These pages are task-shaped. Each one is a job you might actually need to do today.

## What is in Tideswell? [#what-is-in-tideswell]

Enough to know which section you want.

* **Chat** for the conversation, attached to the records it is about rather than floating
  free of them.
* **Tasks and projects** for the work, with a list, a board, a calendar and a roadmap.
* **Store** for what Shopify knows: revenue, orders, best sellers, stock and what to
  reorder.
* **Suppliers, purchasing and wholesale** for what you buy, and what you sell to other
  businesses.
* **The analyst** for asking questions about your own numbers in plain English.
* **Automations and workflows** for the things that should happen without anyone
  remembering to do them.
* **Objects** for everything else your business tracks, covered in <Ref to="objects" />.

## Where should you start? [#where-should-you-start]

If a workspace already exists and somebody has just added you, read <Ref to="concepts" />
first. It takes about ten minutes and it explains the words you will meet on screen, plus
why you can see some things and not others.

If you are setting a workspace up, that same section still comes first, because
<Ref to="concepts/who-can-do-what" /> is the part most new admins get wrong.

## What is the deepest part of the product? [#what-is-the-deepest-part-of-the-product]

Objects, which is why they get two sections rather than one. An **Object** is a kind of
record your team defines, for the things nobody could have shipped for you: repairs, sample
requests, fabric trials, press loans.

<Ref to="objects" /> explains what an Object is, why you would create one, and how to build
it. <Ref to="records" /> covers the day to day once records start arriving: finding them,
editing them, filtering them, and connecting them to the rest of your work.

If you are about to build one, <Ref to="objects/plan-your-fields-first" /> is worth four
minutes first. A few of the choices are fixed once you save them.
